This weekend our family decided to do something other than cycling. We took a trip to the Monroe Executive Airport to see the Warriors and Warbirds 2009 Airshow. It is simply amazing to see 60 year old aircraft that have been restored and look like they just came out of the factory. It is also amazing to see that the sheer performance these aircraft possess.

Well, its official, 2008 is over. We finished the year with another successful Bee Team ride. The day was beautiful, about 60° and sunny. To say it was a bit windy would be a serious understatement. The wind really blew. On one section of road even a paceline was only capable of 14 miles per hour.

50 on 50 Update

The first thing I would like to say is that I was a little disappointed that no one that promised to ride with me showed up this morning to help me with this milestone ride. But that was really ok since I managed to get two riders from Ann Marie’s Y ride to join me since they needed/wanted more miles. So At 9:30AM I headed out of Beatty Park to meet up with Angela and Sonya to ride some of rural Union County roads.

This recreational bike ride offers a gently rolling 20 mile option and a more challenging 50 mile option through the rolling hills of Union County SC. If you always wanted to do a group ride, but were intimidated, this is your chance to feel the rush of riding in a group. The 20 mile route is designed for beginners and will have rest stops. In addition to several rest stops available on the course, your registration fee covers the highly sought Captain Jack T-shirt as well as a delicious lunch served at the Start/Finish line.

What a beautiful day for a ride. There were a few people I knew there at the ride start. A few Bee teamers, and I also ran into a few others I knew and/or have ridden with in the past. The route took you out of Harrisburg, NC from Hickory Ridge High School and headed basically in a southeasterly direction into Union County, then it makes a turn almost directly north back into Cabarrus County before turning west to the finish.
