Bicycles East Poker Ride

I know you are probably saying “another charity ride.” Well this one is a bit different. Yes the money does go to charity, and it is a local one at that. The route winds through Matthews, Weddington, Waxhaw, Indian Trail So not really any big deal. It is a big deal, or should I say DEAL, there are prizes at the end. This is not a race in the typical sense, no awards for finishing ahead of the pack, not podiums for first, second or third. Instead you will receive a playing card from a standard deck of cards at each of five designated stops. at the end of the ride you will play your Poker hand and the three best hands will win cash prizes. There will also be food and drinks at the end of the ride at the Bicycles East store in Matthews.

Today of course was the Bicycles East Veterans Day Ride. Just over 60 miles through Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Union Counties. The weather forecast was for rain in the morning tapering off to a nice sunny day by mid-afternoon. For this ride we have the entire family involved. First off Annette was working at the registration table, she was a cyclist and would love to again but some inevitable knee surgery prevents her from riding until it is over, hopefully in 2009.
