During last weekends ride I actually witnessed two blowouts and saw about two others fixing flatted tires after or on the descent down Howard’s Gap Road. I really don’t know why the two flats I saw being fixed happened but the blowouts were the result of improper braking technique while descending. The problem is that most people don’t really understand proper breaking or when to brake. They either brake to hard or not at all.
Well I have had the new Hüdz replacement brake hoods on my Dura-Ace equipped bike for several rides now and here is what I think. I like them. Now that doesn’t mean they are perfect, there are issues.

After everything was said and done, here is a summary of the upgrades/swaps that we did on out Cannondale Road Tandem. Nashbar/Winwood cyclocross fork replaces the Cannondale Tandem Specific Fatty fork. Avid SD-7 linear pull brakes replace the Avid BB-7 mechanical disc brakes. Custom wheels built from Shimano M760 hubs, DT Swiss R1.1 rims and WheelSmith DB spokes replaces OEM 40 hole wheels.
