Besides a home, your kid’s college education and perhaps a car, is your bike the most expensive thing you own?

I had a chance to see and hop on for a few minutes a bicycle that retails for $8500. I know that in town there are some bikes that are even more than that.

Shimano Wheels

An interesting article was posted today on Shimano’s wheel building at their factory in Malaysia. Some things I did not know. All of Shimano’s wheels are hand-built. The only exception is that a few wheels use a robot to stuff the hub with spokes. Otherwise there are no robots in the wheel building assembly. Shimano makes all the parts that go into the wheel, the hubs, spokes and rims at the same factory. They control the entire supply chain. All their wheels except the all carbon Dura-Ace tubulars, which are made in Japan, come from the Malaysian factory.

About as hill free as one can get around Waxhaw, this is the ride Coach likes to take those who have been neglecting their training on. Much loved by those who rode hard on Saturday and want a short recovery ride for Sunday afternoon.
