So, here we are in the year 2010. Starting the new year off correctly was something I have been meaning to do. With very good intentions I planned on getting on the bicycle on January 4th. Well as it so happened I had to travel out of town on the 4th. Since my destination was sunny Florida I figured I would drive instead of fly and that way I could take advantage of the warm weather and get a few rides in after the meetings for the day were done. Who could have known that Florida would be in the worst cold spell they have seen in years, with morning temperatures in the low 20°’s.
As some of you have astutely noted, there have been no new posts on the Incidental Cyclists in the last month. It is not because our enthusiasm for cycling is waning, on the contrary. Our short hiatus has made it even more clear that cycling is a very big part of our lives. Just like all other aspects of life, sometimes there are things that encroach on the things we would rather be doing. In this case it is work and family.
After yesterday’s ride debacle, broken spoke nipple 14 miles into the ride, I felt I needed a nice easy ride on a beautiful Sunday morning. Off to Bicycles East for the Show & Go SS/FG ride. I get there about 20 minutes till 9 and am the first one there. Jackie shows up a few minutes later, then Chris then finally Jim and his girlfriend Carrie (I hope I spelled all those names correctly).
This weekend our family decided to do something other than cycling. We took a trip to the Monroe Executive Airport to see the Warriors and Warbirds 2009 Airshow. It is simply amazing to see 60 year old aircraft that have been restored and look like they just came out of the factory. It is also amazing to see that the sheer performance these aircraft possess.
It was one year ago on the Veteran’s Day ride that I had to go to the hospital with a huge hematoma. So with that experience you would think that I really wouldn’t be eager to return again this year. Well, Nicole and I did go out and took a few pictures of the event that we wanted to share with the cycling community. Many of the images are from before and during the start of the event. We also took a few photographs at the first rest stop.
The biggest bicycle swap meet and expo is coming back to Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC on Sunday, November 8, 2009. The expo and swap meet runs from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. There is a $5.00 admission charge and children under 12 are free, there is also free parking. There will be the usual Kid’s Play Zone.

LOS ANGELES (October 22, 2009) – The host cities for the record-setting Amgen Tour of California professional cycling road race were announced this morning via a Twitter exchange that took place shortly before 9 a.m. PT between Gov. This marked the first time an event of this stature has ever been announced via Twitter.
Starting in Amsterdam and spending the first three days in the Netherlands the 2010 Giro d’Italia route was announced. This is only the ninth time in history that the Giro has started outside of Italy. The Giro runs from May 8, 2010 through May 30, 2010.
