Over the upcoming weekend The Incidental Cyclist is changing home address and moving to the new WordPress 2.5 platform.

The Incidental Cyclist will now be located at http://www.incidentalcyclist.com, make sure you update your bookmarks and favorites links. For the month following the move if you go to the old site address you will be redirected automagically to the new site. For the more technically minded the site will use a 301 Redirect to allow Google and others to still find us at our new home.

Over the course of the next few weeks I will also be tweaking the site and playing around with various layouts until I find something that feels right. Especially now that I seem to have a little time on my hands. The move will also ensure that The Incidental Cyclist has a home for many years to come!

The Mid-Saturday ride now has a route map and elevation chart included in the post. Come see what the ride is like before you even venture outside!

Mid Saturday Morning Ride

The snow is gone, as quickly as it came and most rides will go back to their normal schedule. Please contact the ride organizers for details, as they decide later on in the week. Thinking

To my faithful readers, and anyone new to the site; since I am traveling for work this week I may not be able to post much. I will try to get some news up and post remotely. This also means no riding during this week. Sad

iCal Honey One of the things I personally look forward to is riding with new and interesting people. In order to promote that as much as possible, The Incidental Cyclist will now be adding local rides to it’s events calendar. If you hear of a local ride, or just want to get the word out about a great group to ride with, just let us know and we will add it too.

As I get to learn more about the WordPress software and the capabilities to extend the software through plugins, there may be a few changes to the site. Some of them will be obvious, some will be “under the hood” types of improvements.

One of the first things I have implemented is a way to help others promote their web sites. If you are familiar with Google and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) you will be pleased to know that The Incidental Cyclist is running the NoFollow Free plugin. Comments and Trackbacks will have the nofollow tag removed after a certain number of posts and all registered users will have the nofollow tag removed from all their comments. For more information on the nofollow HTML attribute visit the nofollow Wiki page.

It took a while to figure out, but I now have the ability to display route maps without resorting to creating them on MapMyRide, BikeRouteToaster, or any of the other online routing software. The last hurdle was where to upload the files. Now that this is solved we can now display maps of routes we have taken. This feature will help better document what rides we take where we want to share the route with everyone here.
