Become a Fan on Facebook

Just playing around with a few things on Facebook and managed to create a fan page for the site. I was also able to create a feed on Facebook that allow us to post excerpts via a special RSS feed. Look for the following box along within the widgets on the right side of the page, in the next few days.

Please be patient as we work through some issues with Firefox and posts disappearing.

I apologize if you came to my site earlier today to find anything new and were greeted by a page that told you no posts were available. Seems that yesterday’s release of a new version of Wordpress and old versions of a widget or two, did not want to play nice together. Everything seems to be working now.

UPDATE: Click the Galleries page link above to visit our new picture galleries, feel free to download any of the images. Please note that they are rather large at 6mp each.

We will be adding added a new feature to The Incidental Cyclist website. It is a high resolution photo gallery. We will start with The first gallery is the recently completed MS Challenge Walk and we will move on to other events in the area. It will make it easier for us to fulfill people’s requests for high resolution images of events they participate in. We will still have reduced size images linked directly to posts but you will soon be able to go to a specific Album Gallery page and view all the images and download the any high resolution image yourself.

Not only will are we be hosting our own images, but we will also have the ability to upload video. So look for a few ride videos toward the latter half of 2009 as we get back to riding our bikes.

This is our way of giving back to the cycling community that has become so dear to us here in southern Mecklenberg and Union counties.

There has been little written on this blog in the past couple of weeks, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy. Wordpress has been upgraded to version 2.7. Now that won’t mean a lot for the visitors here but it does mean a lot for Nicole, Richard and myself as administrators/authors on this site.

Anniversary

It’s been just over a year since I posted my first blog entry on the Incidental Cyclist. What a year it has been. The site has gone over many changes during that time. Learning the ins and outs of WordPress. Learning how to extend it’s capabilities to provide value to my readers. It’s all been a steep but fun learning curve. We also went through a couple of iterations of how the site looks. It started out dark with light text then moved to this easier on the eyes theme a few months ago.

Site updates

Poll archives are now working. If you click on the link below the poll it will open a page to allow you to see the results of all the polls to date.

The weather widget has been updated to show the current evening’s weather beside the day’s weather.

I will no longer be updating The Incidental Cyclist calendar with weekly or recurring rides, all special rides and events will continue to be updated. For information about weekly or recurring rides please contact your local area clubs, visit their web sites or go to the Weekly Rides web site maintained by Jeff Viscount.

Welcome a new author

I would like to welcome a new post author to the Incidental Cyclist. Richard Paul, my nephew, will be writing about various aspects of riding and training in Union County. He is not a novice to cycling, but is new to riding on the road. If you are a regular reader you may have already read his first post, if not it is the post just before this one.

Moved and Upgraded

It appears that the moving of The Incidental Cyclist has been successful. The new domain home is http://www.incidentalcyclist.com. The old site, while still having all the files and data intact is no longer accessible and you will be redirected to this new home if you try to access it. Please note that this redirection will only be available for approximately 6-8 weeks. At that time all bookmarks need to be pointed to the new web site URL.
