Rides

Here is where you will see posts of rides of a local interest. They will start from various places throughout lower Mecklenburg and all over Union counties. These generally are well attended and afford you an opportunity to meet new and interesting people. Nearly all rides are self supported (no sag) and are not sponsored by any club, organization or business. Helmets are required.

Bicycles East

Monday, September 1, 2008 9:00 AM

We will do the same ride that we did on Memorial Day with rolling hills and light traffic. Plan to do the 53 mile route if you have the time with a 34 mile option if you have to be home by noon. Please park at the public lot across the RR tracks from the bike shop.

Meetings and Vacations

Sorry about not posting in the past week, I have been traveling for work and in meetings in Springfield, OR. Eugene/Springfield is a pretty good place to ride a bike but I could not bring one with me this trip. The nice thing about this is that one of my old riding buddies Len S. manages the best bike shop in Eugne, Hutch’s.

This is the perfect opportunity to give back to the cycling community in the greater Charlotte area.

The next Morrow Mountain Bike MS training ride is this Saturday. Jeff is still looking for a few volunteers to help with rest stops and SAG duties.

Hours are from 7 AM until 2 PM. Jeff needs someone with a pickup truck to manage a rest stop and needs one more SAG vehicle. The SAG vehicle just needs to be able to carry 1 or 2 bikes. Please let Jeff know if you can help… the sooner the better. Click on Jeff’s name below to send him an email.

Thank you,
Jeff Viscount

In order to make my road cycling experience a little more enjoyable and to spice things up a bit I tried something a little different, at least for me anyway. I get invited by a few of my friends to go trail riding with them. Now, mind you, I haven’t been on a Mountain Bike in several years nor on a trail in the past 20.

Seemed like there was about 150 riders today. I think many of them were scared away by the threat of rain. Didn’t have any, as a matter of fact, it was a beautiful day for a ride.

Special thanks need to go out to all that helped put on the ride today, Jeff Viscount, the guys from Bicycles East, The Bee Team and Middle Ring Cycles. All you guys did a fine job manning the rest stops and making sure everyone was taken care of.

So this was supposed to be a recap of the Assault on Mount Mitchell. A few things conspired against us which I will explain later. We managed to get to the Spartanburg Auditorium at 6:10 AM. There were a lot of riders there but for some reason it just didn’t look as crowded as last year. When the ride got underway at 6:30 AM it was already warm and the group took off rather slowly.

4 County 50

We’ll ride the extended Mint Hill loop. This is the same course that we did on Memorial Day with rolling hills and light traffic through Mecklenburg – Union – Stanley and Cabarrus counties. This ride leaves from the public lot across the RR tracks from bike shop parking lot in downtown Matthews.
