If you have an event, as opposed to a regular ride, it will be posted here. Events are usually sanctioned by some organized body (business, club or organization). They will usually have a registration fee and be supported with food/water stations and sometimes SAG support. Please see individual posts for contact information.

Gaston County CyclistsThe Gaston County Cyclist are having their Polar Bear Bike Ride on Sunday, January 13, 2008. It is a 50 mile ride, with a 40 mile option though southern Gaston County, NC and northern York County, SC. There are water stops with cookies and fruit and the ride is SAG supported.

Registration is on event day and is $10 for non-GCC members and $5 for club members. The start and finish is the Forestview High School in Gastonia, NC.

RRRCThe Rocky River Road Club has set a date for their 10th Annual Polar Bear Metric Century. Wind through scenic areas of Davidson and Mooresville and enjoy a crisp winter ride. The ride takes place on January 12, 2008 (rain date if January 19, 2008). Registration is $20 on the day of the event, or you can pre-register for $15 on-line at ActiveZach.

2 Mile ChallengeAre you a cyclist? Do you want to do your part to fight Global Warming? You can demonstrate to the world that you are a concerned global citizen, by taking the Cliff Bar 2 Mile Challenge. It only takes a few minutes to set up your challenge. Just go to the Clif Bar 2 Mile Challenge website. Get out your bike and make sure it is ready. Clean it up, lube the chain, take it to your local bike shop. Then go to the challenge site and put in your address. Map out several locations within 2 miles of your address. Set a deadline for yourself for completing the challenge. Commit to riding to as many of those locations as you can. Ride your bike! When you are done, comment about it here or on the challenge site.

Polar Bear Jersey2008 Ride for Courage: Polar Bear Metric Century:
Two routes fully-supported: Ride the traditional Polar Bear Metric Century or the 25-mile Courage Loop. There will also be a kid-friendly ride around the Our House area - weather permitting. More details to come. Help raise money for those fighting cancer! What’s your courage? 62-mile or 25-mile route, fully-supported.

LOCATION: Our House, 4403 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC.

Riders can enjoy the Whirligig festival after the ride. We provide lunch, and yummy sag stops, awesome homemade granola. Our route passes by “Acid Park” a collection of whirligigs by artist Volis Simpson. Pretty cool stuff.

Tour de NantahalaCelebrate cycling with NOC! Bring out your inner George Hincapie and join us for NOC’s more than a full-century road ride through Nantahala National Forest.

The Tour de Nantahala will challenge riders with everything from burning climbs and tight curves to rolling pastures and scenic downhill coasts. The start of the ride may be chilly, gear up accordingly.
