This bit of news from Australia.

TAXPAYERS are pouring millions of dollars into lining motorways with cycleways that are barely used – and are building a new bicycle lane the NRMA says will effectively cost $300,000 for every cyclist that uses it. …

In a submission to the Roads and Traffic Authority it accuses the Government of wasting millions on cyclists at the expense of motorists, who are forced to battle worsening congestion as lanes are removed from busy roads.

I had an aunt who died several years ago from cancer. It was too late when she was diagnosed and her death came very quickly. Because of this I have donated many times to charities or organizations that want to raise cancer awareness. I even have several of the LAF Livestrong bracelets. I came across this article that might cause one to wonder about our medical system in general and what might happen to us in the case of an emergency.

An article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer asks that very question. In most cases bicyclists share the road with automobiles and bicycle advocacy groups continually ask for money to improve or create separate bike lanes, trails, etc. Should a bicyclist help pay for some of that infrastructure though licensing fees?

P-I reporter Angela Galloway posed the following:

Motorists help pay for roads with gas taxes, tolls and license tabs. Boaters subsidize maritime programs with vessel registration and boat launch fees.

According to Specialized and Bicycle Retailer and Industry News. Specialized has issued a recall on the 2D helmets. You should stop using them immediately and return them to an authorized Specialized dealer for replacement or refund.

This past weekend we had a little taste of winter weather. For a couple of days it was cool and wet. So much so that I did not even attempt to ride. That is not usually the case for me as wet weather is not really that big a deal, if you know what to expect.
