A new series of posts

Over the next few months, we will be featuring a series of posts that combine two of our passions, Cycling and Photography. Please note that none of us are professional cyclists or photographers but over the course of many years and attempts at improving our skills in both areas we have managed to occasionally get a few things right and produce and image or two that evokes emotion.

We will explore such areas as composition, lighting, motion as well as equipment used to take some of the images used on this site. As we continue to practice our image acquiring skills we are constantly reading and learning new things about what makes a good photograph and especially what makes a good bicycle photograph.

These posts won’t be long chapter like references, nor will they be absolute rules you must follow. Rather they will be a collection of tips, tricks and ideas that we have read about or have tried in our efforts to improve. We will cover topics such as photographing you bicycle, from the perspective of bicycle as art to documenting for insurance purposes. We will cover how to’s on photographing bicycle parts. We will even cover topics like photographing bicycle events, rally’s and races. Even your local group rides.

As time permits we will also talk a bit about video and printing or web posting your images for others to see. As I mentioned above we are not professional photographers but even an old squirrel can uncover an acorn or two every once in a while. I hope you will enjoy reading these posts as we will have fun researching and preparing them. If there are any specific topics and/or additional suggestions you have on topics please feel free to contact us via email or post your comments directly on our web site.

One thing we should say ahead of time, both Richard and I have completely different camera systems, one is not more suited to this application than any other, but there will be a bias toward one system over the other as we each contribute articles. If at all possible we will also include some Do-It-Yourself features and some low-cost alternatives to camera specific gear.

Have fun and keep on riding.

I look forward to your photos. Your blog brought back a lot of memories of cycling in NC – I lived in Pinehurst, and rode in the Tour de Moore MANY years ago. Beautiful area! And so great for cycling. Although I’m sure it has changed a lot. Thanks!
