March 2009

The indication I have is that the sanding and surface preparation on our tandem is nearly done. After this step the only thing left to do is to have it painted then shipped to us here in North Carolina.

Here are a few images the sander sent me to show the progress being made….

I am not sure if this is really true but it seems like most of the cyclists I know use cycling for more than just fitness or just recreation. I think this is a good thing. I do fear that many cycle at the exclusion of other activities. I know at times I fall into that trap. Cycling is something that can take an excessive amount of time. As an example of this, I used to play golf on a regular basis. A typical golf outing takes about 5-6 hours from the time I leave my door to the time I return. I used to play about two to three times per week. Since restarting cycling three seasons ago I have played about five rounds of golf, total. This is opposed to about 30 – 40 rounds per year. I am thinking about returning to golf at least two to three times a month during the golfing season.

Got a call on Tuesday from the sander. Spoke to him about a half an hour about various things and what has transpired to get our tandem to where it is today. The good news is that they are working on it. Edgar told me that it should be ready to ship back to Arizona on Monday, March 30.

What a week, I finally had a very serious email/voicemail exchange with the frame builder. Actually it was not really an exchange, more like I send several emails, then threatening voicemails and finally get one email in return. This time I get the name of the sander in California. So I call and leave a voicemail on Wednesday night then follow it up with an email Thursday morning. The email is also sent to the business manager.

Bicycles East Poker Ride

I know you are probably saying “another charity ride.” Well this one is a bit different. Yes the money does go to charity, and it is a local one at that. The route winds through Matthews, Weddington, Waxhaw, Indian Trail So not really any big deal. It is a big deal, or should I say DEAL, there are prizes at the end. This is not a race in the typical sense, no awards for finishing ahead of the pack, not podiums for first, second or third. Instead you will receive a playing card from a standard deck of cards at each of five designated stops. at the end of the ride you will play your Poker hand and the three best hands will win cash prizes. There will also be food and drinks at the end of the ride at the Bicycles East store in Matthews.

Yin & Yang – Update #13

This is one of those things that I am not even sure I should mention. With so much false hope I really should err on the side of caution and not even mention it, but I will.

Good news

My wife is out of the hospital and everything is going well. She managed to cut a whole day out of her hospital visit because she was progressing so well. So about 4:30 this evening we were able to bring her home. So now it is a few weeks of rest and no lifting and she will be better than new. Both Nicole and I are happy she is home, Alexis our dog is too.

Sorry for the lack of news

It has been a bit since I posted anything here. It’s not that there isn’t anything to say or happening, it’s that too much is happening! With the economy the way it is my employer has had to make several reductions in workforce. What that has boiled down to is an increase in the time it takes to now do my job and the job of two other people that no longer work here. It has basically consumed most of my free time. Before this, I could spend about 20 minutes to an hour each day thinking about things related to cycling or reading other cycling blogs. Not so any more.
