As a regular reader of my site you may have wondered if I have run out of things to write about. Well to be honest I have been a bit distracted lately. With the world economy, restructuring at my employer, cool weather setting in, there are a lot of things that can preoccupy ones mind rather than cycling.
With all of that said, that is not the real reason for not posting so much. I have been playing within my other hobby. Other hobby you say! Certainly cycling must have been my reason for living! Well, not exactly. One of the things that I enjoy doing is taking pictures. Now that Nicole has also shown some interest in it I felt it was time to update some of my photographic skills and equipment. With that in mind I went out and bought some new toys.
First, where I was; about 30 years ago I bought a Pentax MX, over many years I collected various pieces of glass and used them on many occasions and family outings. Along comes the digital age and I sell off some of my equipment and jump in with some small point and shoot cameras then finally settle on the Nikon 5700. That worked for a while but the itch to use an SLR was fairly strong so finally in 2006 I looked around and dug out my Pelican case and found all this wonderful old Pentax glass. I debated selling it all and looked at Nikon and Canon, but finally came to my senses and realized that I probably would never have a collection of glass like this again so I reexamined Pentax. Lucky for me Pentax has remained with the same lens mount almost it’s entire existence. I could still use my old glass on the newest Pentax DSLRs. So with that I went out and bought a 6mp Samsung GX-1S (identical to the Pentax *ist DS2).
Moving ahead to 2008, a new camera has been added to the collection. The 14.6mp Pentax K20D. That’s correct 14.6mp! I am just starting to learn how to use this camera and with so many features it will take a bit of time. I am hoping that some of the images that I put up on this site will look even better than before now that I will have much more latitude to crop and photoshop the images I post.
So now we are going to have two photographers in the family and Richard just got a Canon XSi to play with. With a few other accessories we should have a fairly well equiped set-up for all kinds of cycling related photography. I certainly hope you enjoy the images as much as we will taking them.
