It’s been just over a year since I posted my first blog entry on the Incidental Cyclist. What a year it has been. The site has gone over many changes during that time. Learning the ins and outs of WordPress. Learning how to extend it’s capabilities to provide value to my readers. It’s all been a steep but fun learning curve. We also went through a couple of iterations of how the site looks. It started out dark with light text then moved to this easier on the eyes theme a few months ago.
The Incidental Cyclist also got a new home over that same period of time. What started out as an addition to my personal home page has blossomed into it’s own site. It has grown from just a few, and I mean very few, readers each week, to about a hundred per day.
At the start there was lots to post about, but as time has gone on, I have decided to be more selective on what I post about and the frequency of new posts is now about two to three per week. Some weeks more, some less, depending on work and family responsibilities. One thing is for sure, I am going to try to recruit some additional content authors over the next year. Not asking for much, maybe just one posting a month. I will try to get Nicole and my nephew Richard to post a bit more. I think my audience would enjoy reading about cycling from a female perspective and cycling from a new rider point of view also.
After the beginning of 2009 look for a few changes in the way the site works and how it looks. It won’t be anything too drastic, just some minor tweaking to make things smoother and easier on readers.
The first year has been fun, let’s see what the next year brings.
