GREENVILLE, S.C. (BRAIN)—Michelin North America will be raising bicycle tire and tube prices by up to 15 percent on products sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico. This increase will take effect Sept. 1.

Michelin North American director of public relations Lynn Mann said the increase is steeper than its other product lines because this is the first price hike this year for bicycle tires and tubes. She cited rising raw material, energy and transportation costs as the reason for the increase.

WTB raised prices on its tires and tubes 20 percent yesterday, according to WTB marketing coordinator Dain Zaffke. However, he noted, WTB’s tires “still offer better pricing” than European brands such as Michelin and Schwalbe.

Maxxis’ bicycle division manager Chris Warrick said its company won’t be touching pricing until Oct. 1. Warrick said Maxxis hasn’t determined what the percentage increase will be.
