Windy, windy, windy, windy…

Did I mention the fact that it was windy this afternoon. Went out for the Waxhaw ride this afternoon and when James and I got there, there were only two other Bee Teamers and a whole lot of new riders. So I had to take it upon myself to lead the ride. Not that I really wanted to, it is hard riding in the back making sure everyone is ok. It is hard moving from the back to the front of the group then back to the back again to access everyone’s ability and/or condition. It was a hard ride. I should also mention that it was windy!

We took the same route as per usual, no new twists, no unexpected detours and for the most part the entire group stayed together. Everyone made the first stop at the end of Bigham safely and together. This was good. The next stop was at Mary Elizabeth Church, a short stop just to make sure that everyone knew the next regrouping would come at Old Highway and Rocky River (Hwy 522). Single file on Rocky River to Crow. Now I had to make an announcement. I suggested that anyone who felt the need for speed, use it up on Crow. That if they wanted to see if they had wing and could fly, that Crow would be the perfect opportunity to make it happen.

I started in the very back. I mean, I was the absolute last person to start on Crow. I thought it might be interesting to see if I could make my way slyly to the front by the end of Crow. I didn’t realize just how much of a headwind there was on Crow. I did manage to make it third by the end of Crow, but it was hard. Did I mention it was windy!

After the regrouping at the end of Crow the majority of the group decided to head straight back to the school. John, Pat and James took the extension down S Potter and up McWorter. and Leslie and two others went to the store in Mineral Springs. Everyone did a great job of completing the ride with no mishaps and no one was completely bonked. I should also mention that it was windy!

I was shocked that so many that made yesterday’s ride up to Morrow Mountain and around Stanly County did not show for today’s ride. Maybe they just didn’t have the legs or maybe it was because it was windy!
