		<description>Most of the data I have seen indicates that Nicotinic Acid has the effect of lowering overall cholesterol while increasing HDL. My LDL levels are already in the excellent range, just HDL was too low.</description>

		<description>Niacin, I believe, is mostly a HDL raising element, as is exercise and a moderate amounts of wine. Statins lower LDL, though for me they seem to raise HDL as well--an anomoly. Cut out the saturated fats, e.g., whole milk, red meats, cheeses, butter; cut out all trans fats (e.g., in a lot of baked goods). Keep up the unsaturated fats. Fish, nuts, fish oil pills, these help. It's a lifestyle change, but not a difficult one. I found diet alone, strictly followed, was not enough to keep things in line.</description>
