Okay maybe more than one word, here goes …

This all started out about a discussion of how frames are measured today. Back in the day I had a 57cm Klein Quantum. It may have been a tad large but I was more flexible then and I could ride it for hours on end with no issues as far as comfort goes. So basically the Klein fit well. Now fast forward 18 years and I am ready to buy a more modern ride. I look around and find a 56cm Motobecane. I think to myself, this is good, just a hair smaller so I should be more comfortable. Well for the most part it fit but I needed several millimeters more spacers under the stem to get the handlebars in a more comfortable position. Now I have a PedalForce RS in a 55cm frame size and it is nearly a perfect fit.

Our Super Bowl ride

Well it started out as a very small group, 11 riders 10 bikes. I hate the fact that Shannon Rd is right at the very beginning and that it is basically uphill until you get to Pleasant Grove and Billy Howey. It is hard for Nicole and I to keep up with the single bikes on the climb at the beginning without much of a warmup.

Sheldon Brown: 1944-2008

Sheldon Brown, "Mr Bicycle", passed away last night as a result of a massive heart attack, as mentioned in an email from his wife.

For those of you who don’t know who Mr Brown is, go to his website and find out just how much Sheldon knew about bicycles and bicycling. He will be missed.

SportTracks 2.0

For anyone wondering what software is used to keep track of rides here at The Incidental Cyclist it is SportTracks by ZoneFiveSoftware.

Coupled with a GPS receiver, power meter and/or a heart rate monitor SportTracks will automatically track the distance, time, pace, power output and exercise intensity of your workouts. You’ll be able to take a high level view and track your progress over time, or dive into the details of a specific exercise to analyze your pace, elevation, power output or heart-rate performance. Activities can be organized into categories, or summarized by location.

Please note that the rides during the summer months are 30 and 45 miles

The Bee Team mid-winter to mid-spring rides will be the same time and place every weekend, excluding monthly event rides.  If the temperature if below 40 when the ride is to begin it will be a show and go ride.

Start Location:  Waxhaw Elementary School, 1101 Old Providence Road, Waxhaw, NC  28173

The Mid-Saturday ride now has a route map and elevation chart included in the post. Come see what the ride is like before you even venture outside!

Mid Saturday Morning Ride

Or should I say Team High Road? This news is all over the web so I am not going to say much here. The former T-Mobile professional cycling team is now named The High Road team.  Obviously a name that falls in line with their stated anti-doping policies. The sponsors that gone are; Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile), Audi and now the bicycle manufacturer Giant.
