Well it started out as a very small group, 11 riders 10 bikes. I hate the fact that Shannon Rd is right at the very beginning and that it is basically uphill until you get to Pleasant Grove and Billy Howey. It is hard for Nicole and I to keep up with the single bikes on the climb at the beginning without much of a warmup.
By the time we started to catch up we got caught at the light in Mineral Springs. After that we didn’t see the group at all. So we both decided that it would be just the two of us on a leisurely Sunday ride. Still wanting to get a few more miles in.
When we got to Sandy Ridge Rd we decided it would be in our best interests to shorten up the loop. Turning right on Sandy Ridge cuts off almost exactly two miles on the ride. As we turned the corner on Plyler Mill Rd one other rider came from the only rest stop to, guessing, ride with us as we didn’t stop. From that point on Nicole and I drug this rider around, sometimes at speeds in excess of 30 mph for quite a few miles. No breaks, always out in front. He basically sat in and had a good ride. When we finally had nothing left there was not even a "Thanks" or "Nice pull" or any other comment. He just sped off without saying a word. No help or even the suggestion that he would pull us so we could catch our breath.
Nicole said something to me and we talked about it for a few minutes. It seems there will always be a few cyclists that do not want to share. Nicole says that was because the entire ride was men only. I said I missed John D on the ride because he would never do that to us, she agreed.
Anyway here is the info from the ride along with a route map and elevation chart.
